There are several state agencies that collect and complie parcel data. According to survey conducted in 2004, there are 20 representatives in state agencies, that call on Counties for their parcel data. As one example, the Department of Agriculture collects all parcel geometry data adn complies a stsatewide product annually

The NC Geodetic Survey is the lead state agency for geodetic survey, it administers the NC Coordinate Sytem, and is charged to complete field monumentation and office computations of the coordinate system.

The Land Records Management Program was established in 1977 for improvement of county land records with first emphasis being placed on the completion of countywide base maps. Counties with suitable base maps were encoraged and have undertaken logical enhancements (including parcel map conversion into GIS)
